Social Responsibility

Hammocks Australia is proud to partner with hammock suppliers that have sound environmental principles and social governance when it comes to making the hammocks we offer.

What does this exactly mean?

Our supplier of Colombian hammocks - La Siesta adhere to the following;

Colombian Organic Cotton Hammocks are GOTS – Certified Organic Cotton

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the leading seal for the sustainable production of textiles. It is based on national and international standards and includes strict ecological and social responsibility guidelines. GOTS ensures that child labor is prohibited at every level of the supply chain.

GOTS covers the processing, manufacturing, labeling, packaging, trading, and distribution of textiles made from at least 70% organically grown natural fibers. GOTS-certified products with the label "kbA / kbT - organic" must contain at least 95% organic fiber material, excluding ingredients and accessories.

Any chemical additives have to meet strict environmental and toxicological requirements (for common examples include dyes and adjuvants). The disposal of wastewater and any manufacturing waste is regulated.

Colombian Hammocks with Spreader Bars are Made with FSC® Certified Sustainable Wood

La Siesta hammocks only use wood that is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This means that the trees used to make La Siesta products were harvested in a sustainable way.

The FSC is the world's leading organisation for evaluating and certifying sustainable forestry and wood processing.

Hammocks Australia is committed to using wood that is harvested in a way that protects the environment and the people who rely on forests. The FSC is a trusted organisation that ensures that wood products meet high standards of sustainability.

Mexican hammocks are B Corporation Certified

Mexican hammocks are hand crafted from Cielo Hamacas which is the only Mexican hammock company to be a B Corp and only the 8th Mexican company to achieve this certification.

B Corp Certification is a third-party certification that recognises businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. To be certified, a company must:

  • Demonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a score of 80 or higher on the B Impact Assessment and passing a risk review. Multinational corporations must also meet certain baseline requirements.
  • Make a legal commitment to being accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders. This may involve becoming a benefit corporation, if this is possible in their jurisdiction.
  • Be transparent by publishing information about their performance on the B Corp profile on B Lab's website.

In simple terms, B Corp Certification is a way for businesses to show that they are committed to doing good for the world. To be certified, a company must meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
